TRAVELING WHILE ON IV INFUSION

THERAPY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Being on IV infusion therapy doesn’t mean you have to put life on hold—including travel. Whether it’s for work, a family visit, or a well-deserved vacation, many patients safely and comfortably travel while continuing their infusion treatments. Here’s how to prepare:

1. Plan Ahead with Your Pharmacy Team

Let us know at least 1–2 weeks in advance of your trip. We’ll help coordinate:
• Medication delivery to your destination (if possible)
• Extra supplies like flushes, dressings, and tubing
• Documentation for TSA or other security checks

2. Check with Your Healthcare Provider

Make sure your provider approves travel and that you’re stable enough for the trip. Bring a copy of your treatment plan and your provider’s contact information in case of emergency.

3. Know How to Store and Handle Your Medication
• Some medications require refrigeration—bring a cooler or medical-grade insulated bag.
• Keep medications with you (not in checked luggage).
• Avoid extreme temperatures during transport.

4. Flying with Infusion Equipment

TSA allows medical devices and supplies onboard. Carry a physician’s letter and label your medications clearly. Be prepared to explain your equipment at security checkpoints.

5. Stay on Schedule

Use phone alarms or a medication tracker to maintain your infusion schedule. If you’re crossing time zones, we can help you adjust your administration times safely.

You don’t have to pause your life for infusion therapy—just plan smart. Our team is here to support you every step of the way so you can travel with confidence and peace of mind.
